Welcome to 4th grade!

Fourth grade is an exciting year! It is a year of growth, independence, and responsibility. Students are learning to do more work on their own at school and at home. Our ultimate goal in fourth grade is to prepare the students to be successful in both school and in life.

The fourth-grade core curriculum includes Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Virginia Studies. Physical Education, Music, Art, Guidance, and Library classes are conducted during the activity block each day. Classroom instruction involves whole group and cooperative learning strategies. Small instructional groups are frequently formed temporarily on an interest or remedial needs basis.

Virginia provides the mainframe for all instructional Standards of Learning.  In fourth grade, students will take SOL tests in Reading, Math, and Virginia Studies.

We all take part in the success of our students.

The student will…

  • Be responsible for completing assignments.

  • Practice math facts and read as often as possible.

  • Care for his/her own materials and belongings.

  • Respect all peers and adults.

  • Demonstrate honesty and trustworthiness every day.

  • Be an active participant in their learning.

  • Always try their best!

  • Remember, Patriots are Respectful, Responsible, and Caring.

Families will…

  • Have students at school on time each day.

  • Be involved in your student's academic success. Ask your child about what they are learning each day.

  • Check that assignments are completed each night.

  • Empty Take Home Folders nightly.  Review and discuss all graded assignments sent home in folders with your child.  This is important so that there aren’t any surprises at Progress Report time.

  • Communicate any concerns directly with the teachers.

We look forward to a great year!
